Amazon EC2 has now added support for Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Services that enable application consisted EBS snapshot for Windows Server AMIs. Volume Shadow Copy Service is a Microsoft technology that enables application data to be back when the application is still operating by allocating between the user applications that back up applications and that updates data on the disk. With this new release, you can now take Volume Shadow Copy Service enabled EBS snapshots of the operating Windows instances without any need to build custom scripts or shutting down the instances.
