Amazon Web Services have announced that Amazon EC2 System
Manager has added new supports for System Manager Automation, AWS Lambda
maintenance window task types and AWS Step functions which will allow you to
schedule complicated workflows on all your AWS resources. Before, in a
maintenance window, you had to schedule discrete action with System Manager Run
Command. With the new release, you can now carry out the complicated workflows
in the maintenance window by programming a System Manager Automation Document,
AWS Lambda Function and AWS Step Function. Using a System Manager Automation
document it will allow you to use cases such patching an SQL server or you can
take Amazon Elastic Block Store snapshots regular of the attached EBS volumes.
Custom workflows or pre-defined workflows can be programmed on such task types.
