AWS announces Amazon Linux 2 with Long Term Support

Amazon Linux 2 is the next generation of Amazon Linux operating system which is now made generally available and now comes with 5 years of Long Term Support. Amazon Linux 2 provides updated Linux Kernel (4.14) that delivers high performance on Amazon EC2, New compiler (GCC 7.3), Systemd support, modern tooling (Binutils 2.29.1), updated C runtime (Glibc 2.26) and on the latest software packages via extra mechanisms. Amazon Linux 2 can be used as an Amazon Machine Image on Amazon Elastic Cloud Compute and also as Docker Container Image for Docker environment. Amazon Linux 2 is also available as Microsoft Hyper-V, Oracle VM VirtualBox, Kernel Virtual Machine and for VMware ESXi for development and testing.
